Permaculture & Cacao Tour

One of the most rewarding activities at La Loma is touring the jungle farm, learning about the permaculture process, and tasting the wide variety of tropical fruits that we grow here. It is educational as it is inspiring and delicious. You will also walk amidst thousands of chocolate (cacao) trees as you learn about this sustainable tropical forest crop, native to the Americas, which thrives under the jungle canopy in compost-rich soil entirely free of pesticides and fertilizers. It’s a preferred food for the White-faced Capuchin and Western Night Monkeys, who feast on the pods in the grove.

Zapatilla Island Tour

Cruise through deep green mangroves, passing by Sloth Island, and see starfish on the way to the Zapatilla Islands, where you can swim and explore an unspoiled tropical paradise.

Long Beach Hike

Hike across the island, through the stunning Bastimentos National Marine Park, to reach deserted Long Beach “Playa Larga” and other pristine beaches on the North side. End at Red Frog Beach and take a boat back in time for sunset.

Accessible by boat, the best caves in the archipelago are located right in the Bahia Honda bay. Navigate through narrow mangrove passages up the beautiful Bahia Honda creek and venture into the island where the jungle opens to the island’s incredible cave system. Red Frog Beach

Explore one of the most renowned beaches in Bocas! Enjoy convenient transportation for just $10 per person roundtrip and dive into the adventure at Red Frog Beach Marine Park with a small $5 entrance fee upon arrival.

Polo Beach

Take a boat over to the Red Frog Shortcut to cross the island. Walk along the Northern coastline exploring several other beaches on your way to Polo, famous for its palm trees leaning over crystal clear waters, underwater caves, snorkeling, and of course being the home of a local legend, Polo.

Entrance fee: $5 per person to the Red Frog Beach

Red/Green Trail Hike

Some of the best trails in all of the archipelago are located within La Loma’s vast property, available exclusively to our guests for uninterrupted appreciation. Hike through dense rainforest and visit natural rock pools and streams while spotting Capuchin monkeys, two and three-toed sloths, native frogs, birds, & butterflies.

Kayaking

The mangroves around La Loma are a great place to kayak. Let us know and our staff will set up the kayaks with seats and paddles by the dock for you. The use of kayaks is included within your stay.

Natural Rock Pools

Just behind our cacao farm, a short walk along a jungle stream leads to a series of spring-fed rock pools, perfect for cooling off on a warm tropical day. One pool has been enlarged and fitted with a small wooden platform where you can relax or leave your belongings before a dip.

Sport Fishing

Venture out to Bocas del Toro’s best fishing spots for a chance to catch mackerel, mahi, tuna, and wahoo.

The farm-to-table Dining Experience at La Loma is one of our defining features. Our menu adapts daily to bring our guests the freshest possible ingredients in this three-course gourmet meal.
